I for one, am getting really ticked off with the constant bombardment of all the doom and gloom statistics being thrown at us by the TV talking heads, the newspapers, and radio broadcasts. Actually what really bugs me is the bias in the reporting of facts and the negative spin being put on them.
The Unemployment rate is now (nationally) 8.1 percent-----great headlines how 650,000 jobs were lost in the month of March. (no mention of how many jobs were created) no mention of the fact that if 8.1 percent are unemployed, that that means 91.9% ARE EMPLOYED. Yes things are tough right now, and excesses in the economy are being wrung out. Gone are the days when realestate increased in price 20-25% a year. Gone are the days when anybody with a smile could be handed a zillion dollar loan to go out and buy a new home or a bigger home----we are going back to a more realistic level where one is required to put down more like 20% , and then make enough income to support the resulting monthly loan payment.---but again I am getting off my point.
The majority of people still get up and go to work everyday, people still buy clothes and necessities, the sun still comes up in the East and sets in the West. People are still taking vacations, eating out, going to the theaters, etc, etc, etc.------things are NOT as bad as the press reports, you have but to l.ook around and see for yourself----the world is not ending , not even with the Democrats in office. (sorry the devil made me say that)

Amen to THAT!!
ReplyDeleteI second that Amen!! I am sick of all the negative talk about Mexico. It was beautiful down there and everything was great.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love Mexico. Where have you been Gary? I have been disappointed every morning for the last several days due to your inactivity on your blog. You started this and it is now your responsibility to us who have become addicted to your blog, to provide us with your ever interesting escapades.
ReplyDeleteI agree ... I try to avoid watching the mainstream TV news ... it's just depressing.
ReplyDeleteJoe is one of those who watch the news, then the repeat of the news, then changes channels to watch the news....I felt myself getting extremely edgy and depressed a few nights ago and realized it was all the doom and gloom being broadcast to my brain.
ReplyDeleteI said "I want a HAPPY NEWS channel" and there's GOT to be some happy news out there somewhere.
You're right....too much doom and gloom. People are still going out to dinner, just not as much, same with movies ect...
ReplyDeleteIt's the "not as much" that is hurting business owners. Our business is actually picking up... people are looking for bargins and what better place to go than a Thrift Store?
Its so true. Did any of you get that great u-tube piece from the old Johnny Carson show about the egg trick from Dom Delouise? It is so funny and light. You can't even find anything that is so innocent and just plain funny on these late night shows. Everything is serious there also.
ReplyDeleteEaster is a time for cleaning out all of the old cobwebs and bringing in the new. Time for all of us to do the same mentally. I'll try for one. We have no control over what will happen anyway, so lets kick up our heels. There is always welfare. HA!!
you go Gary, you are so right I am so sick of watching the news it is the same thing over and over again it is like brain washing
ReplyDeleteScream it old man, scream it loud. I'm sooooo with you on this. I started following some conservative right-wingers on Twitter, and the constant "sky is falling" crap just gets really, really old.
ReplyDeleteTurn off your TV people! Great post Gary! Nice to see some sanity somewhere.
LOL....you're right. We keep on working and spending and enjoying life. And I'm one who thinks maybe it's time we learned to live with a little less. Lord knows our spoiled kids could sure stand a dose of reality! And the last line on that post made me giggle! You're a pretty darn smart guy Gary!
