On A Scale of 1 to 5

The Celebration of Labor Day officially ends Summer, it also signifying back to school for children. Technically I suppose one can say per the Calendar that Summer continues til Sept 2oth, and the Fall Season officially begins, but----I think most all of us say it ends the day after Labor day, which is---taaaaa-daaaaaaaah TODAY.
For me its my 72nd Summer , and as I sit here creating this post, I am mentally comparing it with previous summers, and have come to the conclusion on a Scale of 1 to 5, (5 being "Most Excellent", and 1 being "Dismal", that the summer of 2008 would rate a 3.25. A rating that would rank it just slightly above average. This summer has been enjoyable enough. Some of the High points would have to be, my visit to the Reagan Presidential Library with other members of my family, excursions to visit my Nephew and Nieces homes in Redlands, Irvine and Fallbrook (aka Shogun Mtn). Closer to home, I have gone out to eat at some of the local restaurants with friends and again visiting family. Places like "Barones" (italian), "Casa Verde" (Mexican), "Ye Old English Pub" (English)and of course "The Sportsman Lodge" (American West).
This summer as also had its bummer periods, The LP's disintegrating health, an expensive plumbing repair, and learning of my own Health problem (BPH & complications thereof).
Overall it has been a pleasant enough season, the weather has been warm and nice, perhaps a bit to warm, but not complaining----so I think all in all yes I will rate my summer a 3.25.

  1. You have always been an optimistic guy. You have always looked at life as half full instead of half empty. You have certainly enriched my life for 57 years as you continue to do so by trying to make me a good blogger. Heres to 18 more years of a good life.

  5. Bonjour Gary,
As Tish said it seems you decide viewing the life from the good side and I greet your behaviour because it is not as so easy. I know of this a little as I suffered some great losses and hard blows as everybody reaching my age. Sometimes we are able to overcome the hazards of life and sometimes it's too difficult its depends the way we are affected. My phylosophy is to say to myself ( and believe me it's not always easy as I am rather a defeatist than an optimist) there is always more miserable than me. Every day we have to fight our spirits, our sadness and the fighting is inequal but by the end the life has "the upper hand" and the show must go on. We must try to be strong for ourselves but also for our family or relatives and it is a daily fighting, isn't it ?
I will rate my 56th summer at 4.5/5 because no major cataclysm occured :))
    (sorry for my bad english)

  11. Bonjour Helene,
I have a very dear friend who was born and raised in Paris,France. She has a daughter living in the south of France with two beautiful granddaughters. She moved here to So. Calif. 30 years ago. She got divorced at the age of 60 and wanted to meet someone. She did a on-line dating service for Catholics and met David who isn't Catholic and lived in England. Since she was making her annual visit to France to see her daughter, grandchildren and her mom in Paris they decided to meet since they had been corresponding for several months. Anyway, they hit it off, they got married within 6 months and she moved to England. They will be moving to FRance in the next several months. Myriam Pellam. Lovely lady. I will be seeing her soon!

  14. I'm not a big fan of summer...one..it's too hot most of the time...two..it's still too hot, three.. it's hotter than it should be. Fall is my favorite time of year and I'm gleefully looking forward to it! Soon the leaves will begin to change and turn the most beautiful colors of orange, yellow, red and brown, the air will be cool and crisp. Pumpkin patches will open up...and before ya know it we'll all be eatin Turkey and giving thanks.
