Labor Day 08

Here in Southern California our Labor day is blessed with sunshine, and lil white puffy clouds. To those that would be quick to complain about that (IE pessimists, and democrats) sorry, maybe you should trek on down to the gulf coast---and enjoy Gustav.
This seasoned veteran, having now observed no less than an even dozen Presidential campaigns, am totally charged up for this one in 2008. Holy smokes people, we got ourselves a race involving a blackman and a woman---the whole world is watching. How Racist is modern America-------how Sexist is the USA?? Then we got the whole shebang of liberal, versus conservative thinking on any number of major issues, such as Energy, Education, Economy.
However the nature of these political drives over the years has evolved into a circus of 30 second soundbites. We will get no detailed explainations of what the Candidates plans for the country really are. The Donks are against offshore drilling for example, their reasons for that being it will take 20 years before any significant oil can be brought to the refineries, and we need it now---I have no idea what they suggest we do that will give us relief from the independence on foreign oil we would liek to have.
The Donks loudly cry about all the things wrong with the country, you heard a long list of these complaints harped to death at their convention---and its healthy to have that kind of outlet for ones frustrations. Unfortunately after a brief time it becomes kinda depressing to hear somebody be so negative about their country. I noticed too that there was alot of positive buzz in the Donks convention, with chants of HILL-A-RIE! HILL-A-RIE!!, and for Obama ----notice howver the republican gatherings they were more prone to chant "USA!! USA!! USA!!", WHICH I find to be more positive.
The Liberals (aka progressives or Democrats) will make a big issue out of Gov. Sara Palin's lack of foreign Experience. I find that kinda amusing---considering the Donk's candidate doesn't have much experience in that arena either---oh wait he did go to Europe acouple weeks ago didn't he---I remember now, he was to busy doing photo opts with the leaders of France and Germany---he didn't have time to visit our wounded in the hospital there---(YA LOST MY VOTE RIGHT THERE KID).
I read and hear a lot of comments from the liberal Donks who blame everything negative on George Bush, call him cute lil names, but thats okay, its an election year---its just so appalling to see so much ignorance of the facts of how our government actually works. Its the Congress people, its the national legislature (the Senate and the House of Representatives) that enact all the laws, make the budgets---ask Senator Biden, he has been in the Legislature longer than any one individual has in the entire History of our Country-----now he's nominated by Obama to be his Vice President---the candidate of "Change"?? Seems to me on the other Party , with the nomination of a women to be Vice President----nows THERE is some real refreshing "change" being offerred to the voting public. A real modern woman who is the mother of 5 children, who has worked her way up through the ranks and now nominated as Vice President of the Entire Country---she sure aint no clone of "Hillary" Gov. Palin not only talks the talk, she walks the walk----. I surely believe that "Reaganism" is alive and well in the Repulican Party and its time this country started being Proud---I'm Tired of the liberals putting our country down----.

  1. I don't dare comment on this, because I'm Canadian, your election is none of my business. But (lol) I could never vote for anyone, male or female, who is anti-abortion. Its great to have principals, like Ms Palin who elected to have her Downs Syndrome baby (and good for her) but its not great to force everyone else to accept that view. In my humble opinion. (Which is always right Old Man!)

  2. I am so proud of you!! YOu couldn't have said that better!! I love this country and I am very tired of Bush being the problem for everything!! Are these people that complain and whine all of the time on some kind of government program, or they can't get off their butts and make something of themselves because they all want big Government to take care of them. I think that is what it is, and then they whine about successful Republicans who made it from hard work and desire. Its certainly not the donks in the Senate ( our wonderful civil servants) who have never had a job outside of government. They have no idea what its like to really work. Kennedy, Biden, Gore, Clinton, as a few. Two of them major trust fund babies. Look at all the immigrants who come here with two nickles in their pockets and start major companies. Also for anyone out there, Barry will not be the first black president,( he's not really African black) if he makes it, their are several black presidents ( real African Americans) as CEO's of major corporations and making the dream of living in this great USA reality. Great piece Gary!!!

  3. Bill,
Even though your Canadian I love ya! Ha! I don't want to come off as a Bible thumper but in the Bible (the oldest book in the world) God said "I knew your name and everything about you even before you were in the womb". He is the Creator, with us as His co-creators. If Barrys' mom chose to abort him since the dad left shortly after he was born we wouldn't be having any of this discussion. Go Sarah Palin, a woman after my heart!!

  4. Gary, this is a good post. I try to keep quiet but guess I have to say something.

Do you think anyone knows that Cindy McCain, wife of US Republican presidential candidate John McCain, traveled to Georgia this past week to assess the humanitarian situation there? Nope, there's not much being said about that. But, can you imagine if Michelle Obama had made the trip? The Press would have been running it front page and top of the news.

Pro-choice is just that -- for, in favor of, respecting both sides of any issue. I respect Sarah Palin's choice. Whether or not she respects my right to choose does not make her less favorable to me as a political candidate because the abortion issue as the gay marriage issue can never be changed for people by politics. Why we make these focus issues of a Presidential race is beyond me.

  5. Two words Gary-Geraldine Ferraro. Don't act like the "elephants" came up with the idea of running a woman first.

It was 1984 in case you think I'm too young to remember the first woman on a major party ticket.

  6. So the election boils down to how sexist or racist America is? Seems that no matter how it turns out, with the criteria you have in place, America will be one or the other. Kinda painted us into a corner didn't you?

BTW, Do you ever follow up on comments you make on other blogs?

  7. MRMacrum: you missed the point of my post, I was pointing out the possible sexist racist conclusions, that might be reached by the rest of the world. ----and in answer to your question about follow up, no I seldom go back, ---thats water over the damn so to speak---I am sure you had a reason for asking me that, why?

  8. NucMed:---My apologies if I implied that having a women on the national ticket was a first time original decision by the Pachys, of course I remember Geraldine---its her running mate I can't remember? Dukakis??

  9. So, what do you think about the news today; that her 17 year old daughter is pregnant and about to marry the teenage father? How confortable are you with knowing that if McCain wins, and something happens to him, that she would step into the presidency? I am not at all comfortable with it. She needs to stay home with her Downs baby and monitor her teenagers.

  10. Kenju, I find your remark that she needs to stay home with her Downs Baby and monitor her teenagers as very SEXIST! It the same old sexist crap men have been saying for years, a woman's place is in the home...not in the workforce.(in this case, the Vice Presidency)
If it was McCain'daughter that was pregnant, should he then stay home and "monitor his tenneager?" You'd say "NO" I'm sure. So why should Sara Palin stay home?? I think she will make an EXCELLENT Vice President and YES, even an EXCELLENT President.
She is actually a breath of fresh air in this political crap we have been subjected to in the last few months. She's a proven former Mayor and Govenor!

  11. Presidents and vice presidents do not work in vacuums, they are surrounded bye teams of experts who give advice. The Democrats have nomindated for president a man with even less legislative experience than Gov. Palin has.

  12. I asked because sometimes it is warranted. Example would be my follow up here.

Water over the damn sometimes starts a flood.

  14. Thank you Tish - in that case, I'm prepared to overlook the fact that you're American.

  15. 1984 - Mondale/Ferraro. And it felt like tokenism then. A fairly unknown House member, not that she's a woman.

  16. Macrum & Gary: I think you gentlemen mean "water over the dam," not "water over the damn." But you can correct me if I'm wrong... :)

  17. dAMN!!! YOUR RIGHT El Cerdo, at least thats what I meant to say.

  18. Gary -- great post, and I happen to agree with you 100%. I got absolutely jazzed when I found out Sarah Palin was McCain's VP choice. I found "hope" again. As for her daughter's pregnancy and all that hoopla....life happens. You don't live your children's lives for them, and the Palins' love and support for their daughter is what's important.

  19. When in Rome as they say. I just figured they spelled it different over there on the Left Coast. Dam! Wrong again.

  20. Would we ever say a man with five children should stay home?

Gary, why can't we select to receive email follow up comments on your blog?
