Like any other civilized metropolis---we have our murders, our drive bye shootings, the raided drug deals gone bad, film at eleven stuff, and of course the ever popular slow chase scenarios--you know the ones they interrupt the dumb reality shows with and we get to watch some poor snook drive for hours this way and that with the helicopters overhead keeping track, and the local police taking turns following as they move from one community to another---anyway, here is something to ponder that is WAAY real.
Our fair (but hopelessly financially broke city) has instituted a new fine----this one should strike fear in your wallet, sure did mine anyway---The famous "California rolling stop for right turns)------will now cost you $381.00 if caught by a cop or the ever prolificating intersection camera's.
Seems our City leaders, desperate to raise more revenues to pay for those costly salaries of our City Council members, have decided the invention of intersection cameras and resulting photos, shows that the city can earn waaaaay more bucks nailing slow rolling stop turns than they could of those that blantantly run redlights.
Like hello, what stupid pedistrian is gonna step off the curb and not look to his left first?

You can look and still not be clear what the driver's intention is.
ReplyDeleteThat is a hefty fine. Maybe it will help. I'm always worried about other drivers.
ReplyDeleteSorry Roger, but if I look and the car is still moving, I aint stepping off the curb---got the picture?
ReplyDeleteThey will get you nay way they can.
ReplyDelete---everything is beautiful in Southern California---(bring money)
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhh..the ole' "California Stop"...only ticket I ever got in my life was for a California stop. I did my roll and look, pulled out only to see I had pulled out right in front of a .....COP! I didn't even wait for him to turn on his lights, I pulled over. As he's giving me a ticket (I was so embarassed) who should drive by...my MOTHER!!! Of course she pulls over (I had pulled into a store parking lot) and asks the cop what I'm gettin a ticket for? See..Mom's always find out when you do something bad! Don't know what the ticket cost...I gave it to my hubby and he paid it..lol
ReplyDeleteHere's a little inside scoop about beating one of those camera tickets. The cameras must be timed to give the driver enough time to get through the intersection when the light turns yellow. Some less than honest cities are setting their yellow to red lights fast to make more money. If you can prove that they set the timing wrong you beat the ticket.
ReplyDeleteSeems like our fair cities and counties constantly find ways to make additional monies.
ReplyDeleteOur civilized metropolis ( that is an oxymoron fi I ever heard one) has started to do RIDE programs (checking for DUI) at 2:00PM near the neighbourhood pub.
ReplyDeleteBut they don't do them at midnight!!
Scratching my head here in wonder.
Bear((( )))
Here's the trick. I have the right of way. I wait because some damn "roller" may or may not stop. He stops, I start. I get halfway across. Suddenly the light changes and I'm in the middle of the intersection, facing down traffic coming from the other direction. My point is that I generally favor the law, and I suspect it's more than revenue that initiated the measure; it was terrified pedestrians.
