Watch Out For The Dragons

As I have made reference to a number of times, this OLD DUDE is just trying to blog on a larger scale, than just family and friends ( which of course are the foundation of all blogs---I AIN"T EVER, gonna lose sight of that). I am finding out there is a big gap blogging about family and friends, and the bigger blogosphere. This gap is not talent , so much as it is arrogance on those who would teach us the skills to blog more successfully--------in blogging its okay, only as long as you don't threaten to be more successful ----a dog eat dog world---no more mr./miss--nice guy.-------I don't wish to sound bitter, I'm not, -----just saying them that are in---ain't always making it easy for us beginners and newbies to learn-----

  2. Like anything learned it does take time to master blogging and the net. As for myself everytime I think I've got a handle on it those darn programers come up with something new. It took me a good six months to do many of the things you have here.
Here's a basic primer for Google blogging that I found helpful: http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2007/04/uploading-pictures-to-blogs.html

By the way what did you do before you retired? Maybe if you incorporated some of your years of wisdom more people would look you up.
The other thing is to consider your topic lines and the first 25 or so words in what you post. That's what the search engines look at when they crawl the web. Look at the news sites and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's really nothing against you it's a mathmatical formula for finding information.
    Hope that helps.

  3. Interesting. I have always felt this to be the case. Talent means squat. I read some blogs that blow me away, yet the comment section stays empty.

It's as if bloggers want their blogs the same way they want their TV. Gossip and bland mindless drivel that they don't have to think about to digest.

I gave worrying whether my blog stacked up. As long as I feel like writing, I will. An audience is nice but not necessary.

I gave up worrying whether a blog I visit has an audience or not. As long as they write, I will visit.

The tricks and gimmicks don't do much for me. I come for the words and pictures.

  4. I posted a message in the chat room on layouts on blogger dot com. I had an answer in about fifteen minutes. You might try that!

  5. Gary ... I love blogging ... I've seen my blog traffic increase from about 10 per day (about 2 years ago) to an average of about 60-65 visitors per day now. Of course not everyone leaves a comment.

I think you will find the niche you are looking for in no time. Good Luck!

  7. Gary, I think I have been very patience with you. I have tried to answer all of your questions and keep in mind that I volunteer my time to do this. I spend a large amount of my week assisting Bloggers on Blogger help group and on Blogger Forum thats when I'm not answering questions via email or on my own forum and blog. I have helped out thousands of folks along the way. Just look how patient I was with you designing your header.

There is always something to learn with Blogging. Heck I'm still learning from those more knowledgeable than me. I try very hard to pass on what I have learned to others.

I'm very very sorry if my answers are almost enigmatic as YOU clearly pointed out, but there is no way for me to explain it to you in easier terms when you don't understand some of the terminology.

I would have to explain each word to you.

In future if you don't understand a word ask what it means and I'll try to better explain, but please don't look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm trying.

By the way Blogger Talk is a wealth of info. You just have to READ.

  8. My apologies to YOU rose, my rant was not meant to reflect all the time and assistance you have given me. THE PROBLEM, is MY ignorance of basic blogger terminology. Being a newbie to blogging, I don't know the difference between html and xml, tags,vs labels, blog as compaged to blog posts---I am learning, two steps forward, one back---but I am learning ---HEY got me a real professional Header don't I---thanks to you.
